OUR Q1 EVENT - February 9, 2017
Our Q1 event took place Thursday February 9th. The event was held at the TechNexus office in the Chicago Loop.
Guest speaker - Dan Kotowski
February's event featured remarks by Dan Kotowski, former Illinois State Senator and current President/CEO of ChildServ.
Dan Kotowski has had a long career in non-profits and politics, dedicated to creating to a safer, more positive environment for all Illinois citizens.
Dan spent his early career working with non-profit organizations. He served as vice president of development and public affairs for Uhlich Children’s Advantage Network (UCAN) and as the Executive Director of the Illinois Council against Handgun Violence (ICHV).
Dan then served eight years as an Illinois State Senator. During that time championed numerous laws to improve the health and safety of children and increase economic opportunities for families. He also led two Senate appropriations committees.
In October of 2015, Kotowski returned to his non-profit roots as President and CEO of ChildServ. ChildServ is a human services organization providing counseling, early childhood learning programs, foster care and adoption, residential group homes, and community support, to 2,800 children and families in Cook, DuPage, Kane and Lake counties each year.
Mr. Kotowski currently lives in Park Ridge with his wife, Anne, and their sons, Nate and Cooper.
How it works
- Each attendee brings a $100 check or donates $100 through the uBack app - just search "100 Plus Who Care Chicago."
- Everyone is encouraged (though not required) to submit the name of a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
- After the reception and opening remarks, three organizations are picked out of a “hat.” The nominators tell us about the mission, work, and impact of their nominee.
- The evening’s attendees vote to award the collective donation to one of those three nonprofits.
The goal is that at least 100 people attend each event so we can present the evening’s winner with at least $10,000. We donate every single dollar to that nonprofit.
The events are a great opportunity to learn about more local nonprofits and their important causes.
The receptions are a fun, relaxed time to connect with other socially conscious Chicagoans. We offer complimentary beer, wine, and food, thanks to our generous sponsors.
